Community Disaster Preparedness Program Lamjung

The Community Disaster Preparedness Program aims to enhance the capacity of HDCS’s newly managed Namuna Community Hospital (NCH) and the surrounding community in Sundarbazar Municipality through technical training and equipment provision.

Communities in the region have faced disasters in the past, responding with whatever resources and knowledge they had, often uncertain whether their actions were effective. In 2022 alone, the district of Lamjung recorded 26 disaster events—including earthquakes and landslides—which resulted in 4 deaths, 38 affected families, and approximately Rs 12,052,600 (about $92,000) in damages.

To strengthen local disaster response capacity, this project focuses on empowering ward officials and community members through specialized disaster response training. Additionally, disaster stock will be provided to support vulnerable communities, ensuring they have essential resources during emergencies.

Aligned with core humanitarian standards, the program follows the “Do No Harm” principle and promotes the use of locally available resources for disaster management, encouraging Creation Care. By fostering community resilience, our preparedness initiatives equip local stakeholders with the knowledge and tools to mitigate risks, increase readiness, and improve response efforts in the face of future disasters.

Furthermore, in times of crisis, HDCS is committed to delivering swift and effective emergency response services, both internally and externally, to minimize damage and loss of life.
