Resilient Independence Strengthening and Empowerment – Uplift Persons with Disability (RISE -UP)

Launched in March 2025, the Rise-Up Project is a transformative disability inclusion initiative by Human Development and Community Services (HDCS), in collaboration with Himal Partner. Currently underway in Chaurjahari Municipality, Rukum West  in Nepal’s Karnali Province—the project aims to uplift and empower persons with disabilities in one of Nepal’s most underserved regions.

Chaurjahari is home to nearly 29,000 residents from diverse caste and ethnic communities including Kshatriyas, Brahmins, Dalits, Thakuri, Magar, and others. Yet, among this vibrant population are approximately 500 persons with disabilities who have long faced barriers to services, livelihoods, and full participation in society.

In championing disability inclusion in Rukum West, our Impact Goal is:

“Persons with disabilities in Chaurjahari Municipality are included in society and have the fullest quality of life.”

To realize this inclusive vision, Rise-Up focuses on three strategic areas:

  1. The project raises awareness and fosters positive attitudes within families and communities, ensuring that persons with disabilities are respected, accepted, and valued equally in society.
  2. It provides vocational training, rehabilitation services, assistive devices, and small grants to help persons with disabilities engage in income-generating activities and contribute to their family’s well-being.
  3. Rise-Up works to strengthen the capacity of local governments and civil society to implement disability-inclusive policies, enhancing access to services, education, social protection, and decision-making spaces.
