The One Health Concept describes the close link, relationship and interaction between human health, animal health and environmental health. The One Health Approach implemented by HDCS in West Rukum District in the Karnali Province, seeks to bring about optimized and balanced healthy ecosystems, healthy animals, and healthy humans through practical programmatic implementation of the concept among the general population with special focus on community sections such as schools, farmers groups, and mothers groups.
HDCS works to raise awareness of the concept and help communities realize the important of taking care of each sector to ultimately enhance their health and wellbeing and improve their livelihood. HDCS will also establish a Model One Health Farm to provide practical examples of applying the concept to bring about healthier communities. The One Health concept is pivotal to understanding and preventing outbreaks of disease and perhaps another pandemic.
