Human Development and Community Services (HDCS) is a faith-based NGO established in 1991. Rooted in compassion and service, we work across Nepal to uplift marginalized communities by improving access to health care, education, livelihoods, and disaster resilience. Guided by values of inclusion and dignity, we serve the poor and underprivileged without discrimination.

HOW WE BEGAN

The journey of HDCS is inseparable from the life story of its founder, Dr. Tirtha Thapa. At just 15 years of age, Dr. Thapa faced the devastating loss of his father. This moment profoundly shaped both his faith and his aspirations. He realized that access to even basic medical services might have saved his father’s life. Determined to change this reality, he left his village in western Nepal (Lamjung) at the age of 16 and moved to Kathmandu. After years of perseverance and struggle, his vision began to take shape.
In 1991, HDCS was established as a faith-based NGO. Its early initiatives focused on social and community development, including safe drinking water projects, nonformal education, poverty alleviation programs, and the construction of suspension bridges in remote regions. Over time, HDCS sharpened its mission around three core pillars: health, education, and community development.
Today, HDCS continues to embody this vision. Hundreds of thousands of people across Nepal now have access to affordable, quality healthcare, transformative education, and practical skills that empower them to build better lives.
