Dr Tirtha Bahadhur Thapa, Founder and Former Executive Director

Many years ago the journey of HDCS began with just a piece of paper, a pen and a plan in hand. In that paper, it was outlined how HDCS would establish a chain of strong health and educational institutes’ to serve the people of Nepal. It amazes me that HDCS has been able to create that vision into a reality and it will continue to complete the circle of the vision.

The core of HDCS is Righteousness, Honesty, and Service. Righteousness is the path of our life, Honesty is the strength of our life and Service is the duty of our life. These three values we keep close to our hearts and minds as we serve the people. Providing quality service to the unprivileged and uplifting them to lead good lives has always been our motive. HDCS exists for the people, no matter how many new program and projects are created all begin with the same root, the mission to help transform the lives of others especially for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged communities that still exist in Nepal.

HDCS initial program began by working with community people in grass root level by understanding their needs and working to provide them with better solutions. Our projects have always stood by the vulnerable communities and worked for their benefit and at times we have faced grave challenges but I must say faith in our God has made it all possible for HDCS to stand strong during such times.

Currently, HDCS runs two hospitals, where we provide quality and affordable health care service to thousands of people who have limited access to health facilities. Similarly, to provide positive educational experience to students HDCS created teacher training and school support programs to outreach schools in both urban and rural areas to raise the quality of education. Furthermore, understanding the concerns of the communities will always be our priority, we created radio services to give people a platform to raise their voice as well as to inform, educate and entertain them.

Although officially I have served HDCS as the Executive Director for these 18 years and as I transfer roles to new leaders for the future my dedication will always remain for fulfilling the purpose of HDCS. We are developing new plans to strengthen HDCS and its efforts. HDCS works to transform the spiritual, economic and social lives of the people and will continue to do so and HDCS will work closely with the Government, partners, and supporters who have always been there for us to continue improving all aspects of the quality of health care and education.

As the former Executive Director of HDCS, Dr. Tirtha Thapa has lead HDCS for over 25 years. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2012 from Faculty of Social Sciences, Chiang Mai University, Thailand.
